Due to the ever increasing flexibility of mobile computing and advent of portable devices, we are becoming more and more reliant on our techno gadgets. Sometimes it seems like they are almost an extension of us. Leaving home without them is almost unthinkable to some, impossible for others. Many of us now will always carry a mobile phone, viewing it almost as an essential accessory.
Imagine then, how you would feel if you lost your phone or your iPad got corrupted for instance. If only you had an iPad external hard drive!
Although I always preach about the importance of backing up your data, I must admit I don't always do it. Not on a regular basis, certainly not as often as I should anyway.
A lot of the time it is just that. Time, or lack of it. Although we have all these gadgets we seem to have less time. Work that one out, I can't. We can come up with lots of reasons why we don't backup, but at the end of the day it's no excuse. You can easily pick up an external hard drive for mac, desktop or iPad off the internet.
It's true that backup options have come on leaps and bounds since the days of the tape drives. It's much easier now to take a backup of your pc or phone.
Another issue with a lot of the portable devices on the market today is the lack of space available to store all your digital media. There is the option of remotely storing and streaming your digital files if you can afford it. You can store it on a usb external hard drive then connect this to your device. But you don't want to be messing about with more cables? The whole point of a compact device is that it should be small, lightweight and easy to use so it isn't a hassle to carry around.
The more convenient the solution the better, we want something that is straight forward to setup and fast. Remember time is of the essence here.
An ideal scenario would be a wireless external hard drive that meets the criteria of a compact device but has the capacity to store all your valuable data. It must connect simply and stay connected. You don't want to lose connection half way through a song or movie clip. How annoying is that?
Technology is on the move and having the storage capacity to keep up with it is presents a challenge.
Fortunately manufacturers are realising this and developing appropriate products like the wireless external hard drive or thunderbolt external hard drive to facilitate this need. Lets hope they can keep up.
